Materials and bases for twelve shallow fish cribs

The Easy Dozen kit combines three reclaimed PVC material types with twelve 8-inch base containers. Fine strands, flexible reeds and wide flat limbs create varied shallow cover for fry, forage fish and other freshwater species.

Kit contents

12 eight-inch base containers 35 pounds of reclaimed PVC More than 250 square feet of surface area Pieces average about 35 inches long Widths from 1/4–5 inches Materials for about 12 units Add cement and assemble

Divide the material among the twelve containers, balancing fine, flexible and wide pieces in each. Add wet cement, set the limbs, allow the bases to cure and then shape flexible pieces by hand. Finished units shown by Fishiding weighed about 9 pounds each; final weight depends on cement amount.

A shallow-cover project you assemble yourself.

Choose Easy Dozen when your project needs several small shallow-cover units and you want to assemble and weight them yourself. The base containers and mixed PVC are included; cement and the work of setting and curing each base are part of your build.

Decide where the units will go before pouring the bases. Arrange them as purposeful groups near the shallow habitat gap you want to improve, with open edges between groups. Record the water level and final positions so later observations can guide your next addition.
