Dense shallow cover for fry and forage fish

The Cradle uses fine, soft reclaimed PVC strands to create compact nursery habitat for young freshwater fish. Its intricate openings give fry, minnows, bluegill and other forage species places to shelter while textured surfaces support algae, periphyton and small aquatic organisms used as food.

The Cradle is self-weighted with cement built into Fishiding's patented design. No separate ballast or anchor is needed. Place units near shorelines, spawning areas and other shallow nursery zones, preferably in groups with neighboring branches close enough to form a larger protected complex.

The flexible strands move like submerged grasses and continue providing cover after seasonal aquatic vegetation dies back. Fishiding has documented all freshwater fish species using this dense style of habitat through years of underwater filming.

Choose the original Cradle when your shallow-water plan needs compact, fine-strand shelter for fry and forage fish. Its recommended freshwater range is 2–6 feet. Check the depth at expected low water, keep the unit clear of swimming and maintenance areas, and choose water that remains usable for fish through seasonal changes.

Compare strand density and preparation when choosing between Cradle models. The original has fine, flexible strands you can arrange by hand. Ultra Fine Cradle uses especially thin, grass-like strands and opens after its retaining tie is removed. Both have cement built into their bases, so neither needs a separate ballast purchase.

Group nursery cover near a suitable shoreline or spawning area, with neighboring branches close enough to provide connected shelter. Add a different profile toward deeper water where the layout needs it. A dense nursery unit and a taller transition structure serve different parts of the same habitat plan.
