Ultra-fine self-opening cover for newly hatched fish

The Ultra Fine Cradle uses especially thin reclaimed PVC strands to create dense, grass-like shallow habitat. The flexible material moves with waves and current while forming small openings for fry, insects and other tiny freshwater life.

Ultra Fine Cradle specifications

Nearly 30 inches tall Opens to approximately 60 inches in diameter Approximately 40 square feet of surface area Approximately 10 pounds About 20% more surface area than the original Cradle Self-opening after tie removal Ready to place and self-weighted

Remove the retaining tie and the unit opens without tools or assembly. Cement is built into Fishiding’s patented base, so no added anchor or ballast is required. Mix Ultra Fine Cradle units with original Cradles and Fortress models to provide different strand widths, openings and heights across a shallow nursery zone.

The reclaimed PVC material was destined for a landfill and provides long-lasting textured surface where algae and periphyton can develop.

Choose finer strands for a dense nursery profile.

Choose Ultra Fine Cradle when the shallow nursery gap calls for especially thin, grass-like strands and small openings for fry and other tiny aquatic life. It opens after the retaining tie is removed, without tools or assembly. Cement is already built into the base, so you do not need a separate anchor or ballast.

Compare it with the original Cradle by strand width, spread and preparation. Ultra Fine Cradle is nearly 30 inches tall and opens to approximately 60 inches across; the original is approximately 28–32 inches tall and opens more than 50 inches across. Both weigh about 10 pounds. The original strands can be arranged by hand, while Ultra Fine opens on its own after tie removal.

Plan connected nursery groups near suitable shallow cover, leaving room for the opened units and keeping access areas clear. Mixing fine-cover profiles can add variety within a nursery zone. Use a separate transition structure where growing fish need larger openings farther from shore, and check seasonal water levels before placing any shallow unit.
